God's Grace Strengthens Us.

Children’s Chapel
November 13, 2016
Proper 28C

Theme: God Grace Strengthens Us
Bible Reference: Luke 21: 5-19

I.         Welcome: Good Morning girls and boys! I am so happy to see you all this morning! Do we have any new friends with us? (Welcome new friends.)

II.       Church Practice: (light altar candles)
We light these candles to remind us that Christ is the light of the world, and we are Christ’s light in the world. On our altar table today, we have a green cloth. The green cloth is the color we use for Ordinary Time.

III.     Opening Prayer: Let us Pray, “Heavenly Father, we are here to worship and praise you. Open our hearts and minds so that we may hear your words spoken to us through the Bible story today. Give us strength that we may serve you through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen”

IV.      Introduction: Raise your have ever had to get a shot at the doctor’s office? Why do you think we do have to get a shot sometimes? (Allow answers.) You’re right! We go to the doctor’s office to get shots so that we won’t get sick. Getting a shot is not a fun thing to do, is it? But even though it’s not something we want to do, we trust our parents and doctor’s and get a shot anyway so that we will not get sick. There are other times too when we have to do difficult things in our lives. In our Bible story today, Jesus tells his followers that they will have to do very difficult things in their lives for God. Let’s listen to Jesus’ words to his followers. (Read Aloud.)
V.        Bible Story: Luke 21: 16-19 (From the Message version)
[Jesus said to his apostles,] “There’s no telling who will hate you because of me. Even so, every detail of your body and soul—even the hairs of your head is in my care; nothing of you will be lost. Have faith, that’s what is required. Have faith in me me to the end. You won’t be sorry; you’ll be saved.”
VI.      Response: Jesus tells his followers that even though they will have to endure and do very difficult things because they are his followers, they will be saved because of their trust in him. We too may have to endure and do difficult things in our lives because we are followers of Jesus. The good news is that we are strengthened by God’s grace as we trust in him to be able to get through difficult times in our lives.

VII.    Closing Prayer: Let us pray, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of your Son Jesus who came to live among us and who died upon the cross so that through him we could have everlasting life with you. Strengthen us through your grace so that we may endure difficult things in our lives and be love others as you have called us to do. In your holy name, Amen.
Let us all now say the Lord’s Prayer together.

VIII.  Response Activity (Crafts, Singing, or another activity will be provided.)
